Zimbabwe is one of the countries that were seriously affected by the Covid-19 pandemic since 2020. The Covid 19 pandemic forced most of the companies in Zimbabwe to scale down their operations. Companies were forced to comply with Statutory Instrument SI 77 of 2020 which stated that the company's workforce coming to the office had to be scaled down to 40%. Eventually, most companies retrenched staff due to repeated low business.
Nenyasha was one of the people who were made redundant during the period. She was given her exit benefits and decided to set up a business enterprise. A friend advised her to venture into farming, speacialising with crop production. Nenyasha decided to locate to her rural home in Zvimba where she owns vast land.
Nenyasha has successfully established herself as a small scale farmer. She is producing grain products which include maize and wheat, as well as other crops such as beans on small scale. She attended a workshop which was recently held in Chinhoyi for Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The workshop focused on value addition and beneficiation. The knowledge Nenyasha gained from the workshop helped her to start processing maize into mealie-meal and wheat into flour, packaging them and selling to the local community. She wishes to increase her market share from 2% to 5% through e-marketing. The growth of the business enterprise might lead Nenyasha to consider expanding into animal husbandry.
