Paper 2 · Religious Practitioners
Traditional healers (n'anga) assisted the guerrillas during the liberation struggle by
Arefusing to attend to any person who was carrying a weapon.
Bclosing their practices for the whole duration of the war.
Csupplying the security forces with the names of all the fighters.
Dtreating the wounded with herbs and giving protective medicines.
Explanation: With no hospitals available to them, guerrillas relied on n'anga to set bones, dress wounds and treat fever and dysentery. Healers also supplied protective charms and medicines believed to turn bullets or confuse the enemy, which raised morale whatever the physical effect.
