Explanation: Traditional leadership was divided: many village heads mobilised food, shelter and intelligence for the guerrillas, while chiefs who drew salaries and authority from the colonial administration often supported it. The mediums supplied legitimacy and guidance rather than military command, and divination used to expose sell outs sometimes led to the killing of innocent people.
