Past papers are most useful when they're worked deliberately, not just read through. Here is a practical approach that holds up across subjects.
Work by topic, not just by year
A syllabus tends to repeat certain topics sitting after sitting. Working through past questions grouped by topic surfaces those patterns faster than working strictly through one past paper at a time.
Track every incorrect answer
Keep a running list of every question you get wrong and revisit it on a schedule until you can answer it correctly without hesitation. A question answered correctly once is not the same as a question you've actually learned.
Use the explanation, not just the answer
Understanding why a specific option is correct, and why the others aren't, transfers to similar questions on the day. Memorising which letter was correct on a specific past question does not.
Revise against the actual syllabus
Past papers are strongest when checked against the current official syllabus for your subject, since ZIMSEC syllabi are updated from time to time and a topic list from an old past paper can drift from what's actually examinable now.
