Paper 3 · June 2017 · aeroponics and fermenter design
A commercial use of the aeroponics system is the
Aproduction of disease free seed potato tubers.
Bstorage of harvested grain under controlled humidity.
Cextraction of essential oils from harvested leaves.
Dfermentation of plant sugars to produce ethanol.
Explanation
Because the roots hang in a sterile enclosed chamber and never share a body of standing water, a crop raised aeroponically can be kept free of soil borne pathogens. Seed potato multiplication uses this: many small clean tubers can be picked from the hanging stolons without lifting the plant. Oil extraction, fermentation and grain storage all happen after harvest and are nothing to do with how the plant was grown.
